What is StemSep™? StemSep™ is a high performance system in which cells are immunomagnetically labeled and bound to a magnetic column. Cells which are specifically targeted for selection (depletion)are crosslinked to StemSep™ magnetic nanoparticles via STEMCELL’s patented TAC (tetrameric antibody complex) technology (Figures 1, 2). The labeled cell suspension is then passed through a high-gradient magnetic column of stainless steel mesh. The magnetically labeled cells bind to the column while the unlabeled cells pass through. Cells isolated by negative selection pass through the column untouched (Figure 3), while cells isolated by positive selection are collected from the column (Figure 4).
Is a StemSep™ magnet required? If you currently use a column-based magnetic cell separation system, all you may need are the economical StemSep reagents of your choice. StemSep uses extremely tiny magnetic nanoparticles, which are retained in a positive or negative column placed in a 0.5 Tesla magnet. If you are not sure whether you can use your current magnetic system, please contact us at techsupport@stemcell.com.
